En route: Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where you can view the feeding of elephants, which takes place daily. The highlight of this event is to observe the feeding of baby elephants using milk bottles.
Afternoon: After the elephants are fed, they will be taken by foot to a nearby river for their daily bath.

Get close to the elephants at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
Tucked away on the outskirts of Nuwara Eliya’s pretty countryside, halfway between the commercial capital Colombo and the laidback UNESCO-protected town of Kandy lies Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Department. The 25-acre coconut plantation adjacent to the Maha Oya River, just as the name suggests, is an orphanage, nursery, and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants, situated northwest of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. It was originally founded to care for and protect the many orphaned and injured wild elephants wandering in the forests of Sri Lanka. The main attraction for visitors to the park is clearly to observe the care and daily routine of the elephants, such as bottle feeding elephant calves, feeding other elephants in their stalls, and bathing in the Ma Oya River.

Take photos at Lover's Leap Waterfall - a little known gem in Sri Lanka
Tucked away on the outskirts of Nuwara Eliya’s pretty countryside, Lover’s Leap Waterfall is a must-see attraction, making for a perfect half-day visit in this enchanting hill country of Sri Lanka. The glistening cascade beginning at Pidurutalagala Mountain boasts a height of 30 meters and affords mind-blowing views of the town’s lush greenery. The best way to experience the splendor of Lover’s Leap Waterfall is to take a hike to reach it. From the Pedro Tea Estate, you will find a 400-meter hiking trail through manicured tea plantations and small houses nestled in between the surrounding shrubbery. In spite of an uphill path, the hike isn’t too steep and is more of a leisurely hour-long walk. Underneath the waterfall, you can relax, take in the magnificent views of Nuwara Eliya town, enjoy the cool spray from the gushing water, or listen to the story behind this cascade’s name about the two lovers whose families opposed their union who leapt to their deaths from this waterfall to ensure everlasting love.
